REED CITY — Northland Area Federal Credit Union held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of their new Reed City branch.
Originally started at the decommissioned Wurthsmith Air Force base in Iosco County, the bank now has 16 locations across Michigan.
Present at the ribbon cutting was Larry Adams, of the Reed City VFW Auxiliary Post #2964, who was presented a check, alongside Russ Nehmer for the Veteran’s Memorial Park, members of the Reed City Chamber of Commerce, and Reed City council members.
“We had a lot of chamber people and city council people here that was wonderful for the support that they provided for us,” regional manager Theresa Snyder said.
“We are looking forward to learning more about the community and to being able to do some volunteering in the area. We support the veteran’s initiatives that are in the area. And we also look forward to partnering with the schools for some financial education,” she said.
According to Snyder, they hired some great people from the Reed City area.
“We’re lucky to have a great crew here. We found some great gems in the Reed City area to come work for us, so we’re excited about that. And we’re excited to have their knowledge of the community as well.
Chamber Coordinator Alanna McBee is excited to see more business openings, especially in the area where NAFCU and the new recreation center, “The Fairway,” will be opening outside of the downtown area where most of the businesses are.
“We have another ribbon cutting right beside here tomorrow. So this area of Reed City is growing, (if) we can just get someone into the old Pizza Hut now, that would be great,” she said with a laugh.
McBee was happy Northland Area Federal Credit Union is looking to work with the community.
“It’s awesome that they are willing to volunteer their time because that is so helpful for the community. And I think everyone will truly appreciate that,” she said.
