Minnesota Lawyer Indefinitely Barred for Wide-Ranging Misconduct

A Minnesota attorney who committed “wide-ranging misconduct,” including advising a client despite an evident conflict of interest, has been hit with an indefinite suspension without the right to apply for reinstatement for at least eight months.

The Minnesota Supreme Court said an indefinite suspension was the proper sanction for the behavior of Larry John Laver, who was accused of misconduct in connection with five client cases. He allegedly made misrepresentations to clients, courts, and disciplinary investigators, and engaged in client neglect, disobedience of court orders, collection of improper fees, and more.
