Ulster County resident and former Assistant District Attorney Jarrid Blades has announced his candidacy for District Attorney. Blades, a graduate of Hobart College and Syracuse University College of Law, brings a wealth of experience and success to the race.
After graduating from Hobart with honors in political science and American history, and playing on the football team for four seasons, Blades received his law degree from Syracuse. While in law school, he volunteered at the Disability Rights Clinic and the University’s Veterans Legal Clinics, and served as the executive editor of the Journal of Science and Technology Law.
After law school, Blades began his career as an Assistant District Attorney in Monroe County, where he prosecuted a wide range of cases and gained valuable experience in legal research, motion drafting, and witness preparation. In 2017, he returned to Ulster County to serve as an Assistant District Attorney, where he prosecuted cases involving narcotics, firearms, arson, and domestic violence.
In 2019, Ulster County Sheriff Juan Figueroa recruited Blades to serve as the Office of the Sheriff’s Chief Civil Administrator and Commander of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team (URGENT). Under his leadership, URGENT conducted the largest drug and weapons seizure in Ulster County history, in partnership with the New York State Attorney General’s Office Organized Crime Task Force.
Blades is now seeking the Democratic nomination for Ulster County District Attorney.
