Barcelona academy product emerges as a mid-season loan target for Turkish giants

Having spent the second half of the last season out on loan in Turkey, Barcelona youngster Inaki Pena could be given a chance to return to the Super Lig again as Fenerbahce are interested in his services.

This claim comes from SPORT, who state that the Turkish giants are keen on signing the 23-year-old Barça academy graduate on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign.

Pena came through the youth ranks at Barcelona and made his first-team debut for the club only this season when he featured in the UEFA Champions League dead rubber against Viktoria Plzen.

The goalkeeper’s only other appearance this term came in the 4-3 win over CF Intercity in the Copa del Rey earlier this month.

Given the form that Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been in, Pena’s situation is unlikely to improve this term and Fenerbahce want to capitalise on it by taking him on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Pena spent the second half of the last season on loan at Galatasaray and made a solid impression. It has seemingly convinced Fenerbahce that the Barcelona youngster can be a good short-term option to address their goalkeeping issues, with Altay Bayindir struggling.

Pena’s current contract with Barça expires at the end of the ongoing campaign. However, a new deal is all but finalised for the 23-year-old as well as fellow academy graduate Alejandro Balde.

Barcelona decided to sell Neto in the summer so that Pena can become the understudy to ter Stegen. So, it seems highly unlikely that they will let him leave on loan this month.

Barcelona will not let a lot of players leave this month, with Memphis Depay’s impending move to Atletico Madrid likely to be it as far as exits are concerned.
